Dunia Shafik, the visionary director and trainer behind "A Life of Choices," is a beacon of resilience and non-judgemental compassion. Her journey into transformative coaching and creative facilitation stems from a life-altering experience in the summer of 2016. Within two days, she was faced with the trauma of her son being stabbed, and then the life-altering news that her son then became the perpetrator, and had taken a man’s life. To this day Dunia reflects on why these events occurred and how they could have been prevented. Thus she embarked on a profound quest for understanding and to inspire change.
Seven years of dedicated learning, listening, and education, has brought Dunia to the present, and the founding of "A Life of Choices".
Her mission is simple, but monumental in its size - to break the cycles of violence and injustice. With a mother's heart that listens without judgment, Dunia facilitates programs that bridge the gaps that the justice and prison system creates, by empowering individuals to rediscover their greatness and contribute positively to society.
In the heart of her programs, such as "Manhood," "Nascent Woman," and "Choices," Dunia shares a unique blend of formal coaching techniques, creative expression, compassionate mentoring, and the wisdom gained from her own journey. She is committed to guiding participants towards a path of healing, self-discovery, and the embodiment of positive change.

FAQS
Life coaching is a dynamic and collaborative process focused on helping individuals identify and achieve their personal and professional goals. It involves a series of one-on-one sessions with a trained life coach who provides guidance, support, and accountability. Coaches use a variety of techniques and tools to help clients gain clarity, set actionable goals, and develop strategies to overcome challenges. The coaching process is highly personalized, tailored to each individual's unique needs and aspirations, and it empowers clients to make positive changes in their lives.
The duration of a coaching engagement can vary based on individual goals and needs. Some clients find value in a few sessions focused on specific issues or challenges, while others may engage in longer-term coaching to achieve more substantial personal or professional transformations. Typically, a coaching relationship may last anywhere from a few months to a year or longer. It's essential to discuss your objectives and expectations with your coach to determine the best timeline for your coaching journey.
He is our first child, he is my Ali. The sun was shining in his beautiful eyes as he was growing up, a handsome, healthy and loving boy who enjoyed different activities. He was learning to play piano, travelling to Spain for football training sessions and had his shirt signed by the top Spanish footballers. He was kind and loving to creatures and animals alike. At some point the sunshine got covered by some dark clouds, I saw him struggling and started to drift away from his pure path. I was scared, disappointed and angry. How did we reach this destination? I worked hard to provide him with a simpler future and had big ambitions for him. Four years ago Ali found some “new friends”, these young people were having a problem with a gang and the gang considered Ali to be their enemy. Ali was chased and stabbed by five people, they were laughing at him while saying “dip in” “dip in”. Ali was bleeding and his pride was broken. I knocked on so many doors, the police, youth services, mental health and our GP begging them to do something but no doors opened.Just four days later Ali and his new “friends” attacked back in retaliation, Ali was arrested, in fact we shared his location with the police to be dealt with by the law. There was thunder and it started to rain questions: Didn’t I take you to your football, karate and swimming lessons every week?Didn’t I support you with school, attend all your assemblies and accompany you on school trips? Didn’t I get you private tuition? and didn’t you pass your private school exams?Didn’t I arrange for your birthday parties, one with your school friends and one for the family?Didn’t I tell you that you are my source of complete unconditional love?My anger continued and my soul was crying, I was angry at me, at the system and at everything but suddenly I felt like I was hit by a hurricane -I lost control of everything. Then something strange happened, I was spinning inside the hurricane until I emerged into a Sufi dance where I felt a complete sense of surrender and I welcomed the intervention of the divine. This is magical, is this really possible? All my scars have now turned into a beautiful tattoo printed on my soul and it is becoming my body’s compass that guides to me on this mysterious journey of life.I have learned that the moment they put our new-born babies on our chests is the same moment where their struggles in life gets placed inside our hearts. But I have also learned that we, mothers, have the power to change things, we are the pillars of our families. I hear your frustration, I read the questions on your face and I feel your pain, but I can help you. Together we can create this new world where there is a safe space for our tears to scroll down; it is a world where we can deeply accept and forgive our pasts and together get empowered and be ready for the new chapters to begin.
